InactiveI am in my second trimester but I have a severe abdominal pain,It’s since 5th week of my pregnancy,as it’s not on lower pelvic, doctors here have advised me to ignore it,however this is not allowing me to enjoy my pregnancy and I am always depressed and cannot do any household chores,Is there anyone in this group who faced this? Kindly share so that it will ease my stress.TIA

ParticipantDear Purnima. Which part of the abdominal. ? Upper can be gas.. Heart burn etc. lower can be due to the ligaments expanding with the uterus causing cramps and pain . These pains can be more prominent in the first child. Is it like period cramps ? Second Trimester does bring on such pains … Due to the growing baby. Some start with sever back pain and some abdominal. Mainly don’t take unnecessary tension as it is not good, At this time. Keep monitoring the pain. If possible make a record log. What time it is too much.. What makes it worse.. What gives relief.. ( like sitting in a certain position or lying one one side ) , nature of the pain- sharp/ dull / sudden : constant. Etc . Make notes of these things and present it to your midwife next appointment. Lastly if you still think it is worrying kind of pain.. Like suggested as a mum your instincts will be good. Go to a and e and ask for ultra sound.
Hope you will be fine soon. By the sound of it doesn’t look serious. When is your next appointment. ?April 6, 2017 at 10:55 pm #1399Anonymous

ParticipantKeep calling 111. Please do not take any risk. Ask for an ultrasound. There is no harm in getting frequent ultrasounds. It’s just the sound waves. That would give you atleast peace of mind. Lastly, ask for an antacid. Your uterus will be expanding to make room for the growing baby. So you will have some pings n pangs or cramps frequently but if the pain gets unbearable then please consult your GP ASAP. I used to call 111 for every little problem when I was pregnant.
