KeymasterI am going through divorce right now and my husband and in-laws has all of my Gold/Silver jewellery & other precious gifts in India in their possession. It was all given at the time of wedding in India of which I don’t have any records. Jewellery is in India, in a locker but they never put my name in the locker account with them. Is there any way, I can ask court to get my belongings back to me. My parents worked so hard all their life for my wedding and gave so much and they’re feeling so hurt & betrayed by these people. If anyone has any experience of such incident, please help. Thank you all.

ParticipantAlthough I am not in any legal profession but as far as I am aware there is a law for Stri- dhan that is the gifts you received when you got married. You are entitled to get them back if you are married for less than seven years. One of my family friends daughter claimed all the furniture, jewellery everything through court. You need to talk to a Indian lawyer. It helps if you have photos of the jewellery given, may you wedding pictures.
Hope this helps.April 11, 2017 at 6:57 am #1578Anonymous
InactiveI am in indian by birth but currently a uk citizen, I am in a similar situation however my posessions are not with my inlaws but with myself. you should be allowed to take whatever is yours through a proper financial arrangement order. what you need is a proper lawyer to be able to fight this.
I am fighting a legal battle myself where my husband is not understanding and also I have two kids aged 12 daughter and 19 son.
I have been asked to move out of the family home with limited support to stay on my own with my children spending prime care with him as he is the earning member.
I would like some advise of how I can fight this battle and if anyone gas been in a similar situation as me -
