About Indian Ladies UK (ILUK)
Indian Ladies UK (ILUK) is a 45,000-strong community group made up of first-generation migrant Indian women living in the United Kingdom. Our members represent the full socio-economic and geographic spectrum of India — from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu — and include professionals from diverse fields such as banking, law, medicine, IT, academia, social work, and entrepreneurship.
Founded in 2015, ILUK is a not-for-profit organization that began as a social media group to connect first-generation Indian women in Britain — many of whom have moved to the UK after marriage or to accompany their spouses for work. What began as a platform for social connection has grown into a vibrant community offering support, empowerment, and advocacy for Indian women navigating life in a new country.
Supporting Victims of Domestic Abuse
ILUK is deeply committed to supporting victims of domestic abuse within the Indian diaspora. We recognize that abuse can take many forms — not only from spouses but also from extended family members — and can be compounded by cultural expectations, dowry-related pressures, and immigration dependencies.
Many Indian women in the UK face unique challenges when confronting domestic abuse, including stigma, fear of social ostracization, and visa or immigration restrictions that make it difficult to leave an abusive environment. ILUK provides confidential, culturally sensitive assistance that respects each woman’s background, values, and circumstances.
Our support services include:
-
Crisis intervention and emotional support for victims of domestic and family abuse.
-
Guidance and referrals to legal, immigration, and counselling services that understand the complexities of dependent visa and spousal visa issues.
-
Culturally informed advocacy to ensure victims feel understood and respected while navigating UK systems.
-
Awareness initiatives within the community to break taboos surrounding domestic violence and empower women to seek help without fear or shame.
At ILUK, we believe that no woman should suffer in silence. By combining cultural understanding with practical support, we aim to empower Indian women in the UK to rebuild their lives with dignity, safety, and confidence.
