The legendary actress Shabana Azmi is no stranger to delivering magnificent and mesmerizing performances on screen and on stage and she proved her grace and calibre yet again in a slightly more unusual arena on Thursday (09 March).
Ms Azmi, who is in London for a one-off performance of her latest critically acclaimed play ‘Broken Images’, was the chief guest at the launch of www.indianladies.org, the official website of community group Indian Ladies in UK (ILUK) at the House of Commons.
ILUK is a 16,000-strong community of first generation migrant Indian women living in the UK.
The actress, resplendent in one of her vintage sarees, delivered a sweeping speech taking in the issues of identity, integration and equality to the rapt audience.
Ms Azmi is no stranger to the Palace of Westminster – having received the Gandhi International Peace Prize at the House of Lords in 2006.
